27 December 2019Safety Excellence: Take safe driving – be an example behind the wheel
December marks the closing of another year, accompanied by two of the main festive moments of the year: Christmas and New Year’s Eve. However, this is also a season marked by excesses.
The winter is the season of the year which registers a greater number of road accidents, a statistic for which the drivers’ behavior behind the wheel comes as a main contribute.
We are often tempted to engage in risky driving behaviors that may endanger our safety and the safety of other drivers and pedestrians. On a global scale, the behaviors behind the highest number of road accidents are:
- speeding;
- driving under the influence;
- driving while using a mobile phone;
- fatigue behind the wheel.
More than just in the winter or during the holiday season, we should be aware of and apply best practices behind the wheel for the sake of your safety and of those who share the road with us. Some of the best principles for safe driving are:
- ensure the good condition of your car;
- adapt driving to the weather conditions;
- on long trips, take breaks every 2 hours;
- comply with the stated speed limits;
- do not use the mobile phone while driving;
- do not drink alcohol and drive;
- ensure a comfortable posture behind the wheel;
- maintain a good safety distance from other vehicles.
Be responsible and practice a safe and defensive driving. It is not the time it takes to reach a destination that matters – arrive safe is what matters the most.
