Lightning protection system replacement

Sotécnica’s Technical Maintenance area is replacing the lightning protection system in one of the most important hospital units in the country.

Given the specificity of the works concerned, some of them are being carried out by teams specialized in height work.

The design of the protection system is based on compliance with standards NP4426 – “Protection of structures and open areas by lightning rods with non-radioactive ionizing device” and its addendum published in 2013.The size and importance of the complex oblige the implementation of a system protection against the effects of lightning, as these effects endanger not only people but also installations, with a particular focus on electrical and electronic installations. The study and solution to be implemented, considers as Level 1 Protection and effectiveness against direct lightning.

Radioactive lightning rods were also collected at the facility in accordance with current legislation (Order No. 7714/2002 (2nd Series) of 13 April), being transported in lead container and delivered to the competent entity for further issuance of the collection certificate by the Technological and Nuclear Institute (TNI).
