Can you introduce yourself in a few words? What role do you have within the company?
I’m Nuno Torcato, born 48 years ago, married, with 3 children and living in Lisbon. I’ve been working as Project Manager at Electrical Building Solutions (EBS), a Sotécnica’s business unit, for a little over two years.
How did you get to Sotécnica?
During my professional activity, which began in 1996, I had the opportunity to meet and work with some colleagues who are currently employees of Sotécnica, as well as others who have, in the meantime, left, and I was almost always given a good impression of the company. When the contact occurred, and as Sotécnica has been the reference company in our industry for many years, I did not hesitate to seize the opportunity that was offered me.
As a Project Manager, which goals are you expecting to achieve?
My professional objectives include ensuring the well-being of my teams, the proper execution of contracts awarded to Sotécnica within the established deadlines, the search for innovative technical solutions that meet the customer’s needs, the management and maximization of material and human resources in order to increase productivity and the business result, and the search for new business opportunities.
By achieving all this, I will surely be nearer to the most important goal of all: to be and to make the family happy.
Safety is one of our brand’s main commitments. What are the best practices you apply in your daily life?
Safety is probably the most important vector in ensuring the proper execution of the work. In a sector of activity that stands out negatively for the high number of fatal accidents, our group has always been committed to reversing this reality through a strong focus on awareness and prevention.
Compliance with the rules allows us to maximize the means and well-being of our employees, increasing their productivity. Our employees are monitored daily by the Health and Safety expert, who provides the necessary training and awareness for the use of the individual and collective safety resources that are made available to them.
It is never too much to remind them of the risks to which they are daily exposed and the danger that “overconfidence” represents for their health and that of others. The correct use of PPE and tools, the signaling and demarcation of work areas, the cleaning and separation of waste are also recurrently addressed themes so that the tasks can be carried out with the desired success, with the goal of zero accidents.
