Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
My name is João Paulo Nunes, I am 56 years old and I’m the Fleet Manager at Sotécnica.
I joined the company on January 1st, 1989, at the time still in the old headquarters office, at Rua Vale do Pereiro, in Lisbon.
What has been your career path in the company? Have you always worked in the Logistics area?
In the first 3 years, between 1989 and 1992, I was assigned to the Vehicle Section and actively participated in the Personnel Section, which shared the same room. During this period, I performed administrative tasks related to time sheets and cash payments to workers who performed their activity on site. This payment process usually took 2 days.
Between 1992 and 2015, with the transfer to the office in Casal Valbom (Loures), I was proposed and accepted a new professional challenge: in addition to maintaining the responsibility for the vehicles, taking over the internal transport service (drivers) and the responsibility for the Support and Maintenance Service, an area that included the general fleet of vehicles, equipment, transport, tooling and construction sites (containers and furniture). This service area consisted of a team of 15 to 17 people with different professions (administratives, drivers, electricians, locksmiths, carpenters, painters, crane truck operators/backhoes/forklifts, etc…).
From 2015 to the present, with the major changes that have taken place in the structure, the tooling part has been transferred to the responsibility of the business units, and I have maintained other activities, more geared towards the car rental modality, in which we continue with the same matrix. With the increase of companies integrating Sotécnica’s management perimeter, the car fleet grew in number, with new operating methods being implemented.
What impact you believe your work has on people’s daily lives?
My concern has always been to respond to all requests related to the company’s DNA activities and to free Supervisors and Technicians from issues related to Logistics (supply, rental, equipment, etc…), trying to find solutions in order not to harm the activity. It is very important for us to remain focused and dynamic when we make decisions that involve a demanding activity such as ours, in which we have commitments and deadlines to meet.
What remarkable experiences has Sotécnica provided you?
Obviously, when we have a professional journey with so many years and different experiences, there are several moments that mark our professional and personal life. Perhaps the most important and determining factor in my professional career was the headquarters (and office) change to Casal Valbom to take on a more operational activity and, of course, sharing experiences with older people, with team spirit and sharing difficulties. For example, we almost always had lunch together and often appointed someone to make lunch for all…other times.
