In the beginning of the 21st century, ANA Aeroportos, the authority responsible for the management and operation of Portuguese airports, under a concession regime, put forward a Development Plan for Lisbon Airport, with the objective of remodeling and expanding its infrastructure to the growing volume of users in transit.
Among the various planned transformations, the Development Plan included the construction of the new Terminal 2, the installation of new platforms for aircrafts, the north pier and the cargo complex, as well as the expansion and remodeling of the commercial areas, the baggage terminal and taxiways, in a project that was divided into different phases between 2006 and 2012.
A long-term partner of ANA Aeroportos, Sotécnica returned to Lisbon Airport in 2006 to participate in this project with its know-how in technical installations, both for landside works and for airside works. In the project, Sotécnica supplied, assembled and put into service the boarding bridges, which connect the piers and the aircrafts, and executed electrical, communication, security and HVAC installations, as well as civil construction infrastructures.
Humberto Delgado International Airport, also known as Lisbon Airport, is the largest Portuguese airport and the one with the highest volume of daily traffic. Inaugurated in 1940, the airport currently has a runway, two civil terminals (T1 and T2) and a military terminal. The successful execution of this project allowed Lisbon Airport to increase its airport capacity and, at the same time, improve the level of quality, comfort and safety of all citizens who travel to and from Portugal every day.
