With the goal of increasing capacity and efficiency in responding to critical patients, the leading Portuguese brand in Smart Building Solutions was selected to develop the complete lighting solution for the heliport platform. In addition, the company ensured the installation of two elevators, providing improved accessibility through a specially designed corridor that directly connects the heliport landing area to the hospital’s emergency services.
The heliport’s platform, measuring 1,600m², was built on an elevated structure six meters high, allowing direct access to the elevator area via a gangway, enabling the swift transport of patients directly to the emergency room.
Paulo Amorim, Deputy Director of Sotécnica
He highlighted the importance of the project:
“The CHUSP heliport is extremely important not only for the northern region of the country but also for us as a company. Sotécnica has a long-standing reputation and expertise in delivering high-impact projects, which allows us to be a trusted partner for this critical initiative. With this new heliport in operation, CHUSP will be able to respond more effectively to emergencies and critical patients in the northern region of the country. We are very proud to be part of the development of this project.”
Jorge Sousa, Director of Facilities and Equipment at CHUSP, added: “This infrastructure has very specific and international requirements, and the goal is for it to stand out as a certified heliport. Operating continuously 24 hours a day, it will have two approach cones and be subject to a maximum flight slope of 4%—a significant challenge in the center of Porto. This heliport stands out for its fast and efficient connection from the landing platform to the emergency rooms, ensuring a smooth flow from landing to clinical care, serving the entire northern region of the country. It will be a major asset for the whole population.”
In terms of lighting, the platform incorporates specific LED lights for safety and guidance, complemented by a radio controller, making it one of the first heliports in the country to adopt this control system. The windsock features an illuminated marker for guidance, and an obstacle marker was installed on three nearby buildings, supported by a fully autonomous solar-powered solution.
With this project, Sotécnica reaffirms its leadership and expertise in the sector, once again demonstrating its ability to innovate and implement advanced technological solutions that significantly improve healthcare services and the well-being of the population. Sotécnica’s dedication and expertise continue to make a difference in high-impact and strategic projects.
